My time as Chairperson of Warrenpoint Town FC has come to an end.
Every book has chapters and each chapter has a beginning, a middle and an end. I finish this chapter but the book is still a long way to go. Yesterday was my last day as the Chair of Warrenpoint Town and it was fantastic to go out with a victory on a glorious sunny day. It was a day of reflection of the highs and lows, of the opportunities and the successes.
The club has changed massively in my 4 years as Chair. There are the subtle changes and big changes. In the last 4 years the club has created and appointed 3 key roles off the pitch; General Manager, Head of Academy and Youth Development Officer. We have a hard working volunteer base too and I am particularly proud of the new club shop that i pushed for back at the beginning and the team that run it.
I want to thank the volunteers of the club who are the lifeblood putting in hours of work every week. Too many to mention individually but they know their work is appreciated by all. I also want to thank the rest of the board for their unwavering support and faith in me. Certainly the last year has been the most difficult and I personally feel that the last two seasons blend into one long one. However, they had support for me and also got on with the tasks that presented themselves s as a result of the Global Pandemic.
The loyal supporter base of the club has continued to grow over the last few years. TheyThe have been superb and understanding in what has been the most difficult of seasons. They will carry the club forward in great style next season. I am disappointed that we have been unable to avail of the Government support for the Sub-Regional programme during my tenure as Chair but will continue pushing in my new role. The fans deserve a facility in this part of the country that is fit for purpose alongside a facility that develops os the next local stars of football.
I will remain as a Director, sponsor and contributor to the club as we keep pushing on.
The club will soon announce its new Chair and structures to go forward and I am already excited by this and the opportunity it will present for us.
